DUO 46 on GRAMMY LIST

Beth Ilana Schneider and Matt Gould have a great violin/guitar duo. Thir new CD, "Aires de Sefarad: 46 Spanish Songs for Violin and Guitar" made the 2007 GRAMMY entry list under category "Best Classical Contemporary Composition". It is available online from Albany Records, Amazon.com, Arkivmusic.com, Barnes and Noble, CD Universe or Tower Records. About an hour of music by Jorge Liderman, the work is based on 500 year old folk melodies from the Mediterranean.

I just came across the music of a Spanish compaser, Luis Barroso Plaza. I'm looking forward to playing it. He emailed me a nice recording of his Cancion e Danza. Keep your ears open for his stuff!

Guitarist and composer David Leisner has just released two new Cds. One, on the AZICA label, of all his solo guitar music to date, the other (on Naxos) is the premiere recording of "Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, op. 325" by Alan Hovhaness.

Due to structural changes in the music program, they won't be affering a guitar class at Waldorf anymore. I'll miss the kids' sense of humor, and our donnuts / pizza parties. theorbist Pablo Champion will be teaching a great new basic musicianship calss.
